We hear from our friends all kinds of reccomendatins: First, Advanced, Ielts and now suddenly a new name emerges: Linguaskil. So what should we do? As someone who had a close look at the test I feel excited to provide you with some of the most essential knowledge on the test and who is it for

So Lets go!

What is Cambridge Linguaskill test?

Linguaskill is a computer-based language assessment test offered by Cambridge Assessment English. The test is designed to evaluate the language proficiency of non-native English speakers in a variety of contexts, including academic and general communication.

One of the main differences between Linguaskill and other Cambridge English exams, such as the Cambridge English: First (FCE) or Advanced (CAE), is that Linguaskill is a computer-based test, whereas most other Cambridge English exams are paper-based or a combination of paper-based and computer-based. In addition, Linguaskill uses artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to adapt to your level, providing a more personalized assessment of your language proficiency. The exam measures your English abilities on levels between B1 and C1 and it’s not a pass/fail type of a test. It shows you your level of English reflected independently on each module and gives you an overall score stating the level of English you currently possess.

Overall, while other Cambridge English exams are more focused on academic English and are often used for university admissions or visa purposes, Linguaskill is designed to be more flexible and adaptable, and can be used for a wider range of purposes, including job applications, employee training, and general language proficiency evaluation.

What does Linguaskill test look like?

The Linguaskill exam is composed of several modules that assess different aspects of a test-taker’s language proficiency. The test is adaptive, which means that the difficulty level of the questions adjusts to the test-taker’s responses.

Here are the main modules that make up the Linguaskill exam:

  1. Reading and Listening: This part assesses a test-taker’s ability to understand written and spoken English. The module consists of multiple-choice questions that test comprehension of texts and audio recordings.
  2. Speaking: This module assesses a test-taker’s ability to speak English. It consists of a series of tasks that require the test-taker to respond to prompts, engage in conversation, and express opinions.
  3. Writing: This module assesses a test-taker’s ability to write in English. It consists of tasks that require the test-taker to write short messages, emails, reports, and essays.

Lack of human interaction: The Speaking module of Linguaskill is computer-based, which means that there is no opportunity for test-takers to interact with a real person. This could be a disadvantage for those who are more comfortable practicing their language skills with another person.
